Donald “Don” Marvin Anderson Obituary

Donald “Don” Marvin Anderson, 89, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at Lincolnshire Place, with his loving wife, Alice, of 69 years, by his side. He was born August 7, 1933, at Swedish American Hospital, in Rockford, IL, the son of Oscar H. and Eva V. (Nelson) Anderson. Graduated from Harlem High School, Class of 1951. While in school, he worked at his father’s grocery store, Anderson Grocery on Broadway. He joined the US Navy in November of 1952, where he served aboard the US Juneau, a light cruiser, as a Sonarman 2nd Class, until his honorable discharge in March of 1955. He married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, Alice Hoover on August 24, 1953, at Grace Lutheran Church in Loves Park, IL. Don also worked at JH Patterson Lumber Co. and Westinghouse Electric until he started his electrical apprenticeship. He became a Journeyman electrician in June of 1960 and worked for 16 years at Wilson Electric Co. In 1971, he started his own business, Anderson Electric, until his retirement in 1988. Don was a volunteer fireman for the Loves Park Fire Department from 1963 to 1979. He enjoyed singing and was a member of the Sveas Soner Swedish Chorus for more than 30 years, and an active member of the YMCA, Retired Men’s Club and Chorus. Member of Grace Lutheran Church. Don enjoyed monthly breakfast meetings of the Harlemites. He was a kind, caring, and loving man to his many friends and family. Survivors include his loving wife, Alice; his daughters, who he was especially proud of, Kathleen (Rus) Mayborne, Becky (Steve) Hogan, Julie Fier (Jim Lumber), Jackie (Whitey) Anderson, and Joni (Mark) Meichtry; grandchildren, Joe (Amy) Taddeucci, Kristin, Natalie, and Rachel Taddeucci, Jennifer and Robert Key, Mathew Mayborne, Jessica (Jeff) Zimmerman, Sarah Hogan, Matthew Fier (Andrea Centeno), Brandi Fier (Jordan Merritt), Mitchell and Jonathan Meichtry; great-grandchildren, Aspen and Eleanor Zimmerman, Aiden, Mason and Peyton Key, Briley, Tyler and Jace Mayborne; brother, Jerry (Judi) Anderson; and goddaughters, Karen Wade and Shellie Haddad. Predeceased by his parents; brother, Hank Anderson; sister-in-law, Esther Anderson; niece, Debbie Holden. Heartfelt thanks to the staff at Lincolnshire Place for their love and care, especially to Ron, Clara, and Luanne. Also, thanks to Transitions Hospice and Palliative Care, especially to Stephanie.

Service at 10 am Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church, 343 Grand Avenue, Loves Park. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
