Patricia Ann Wiley died peacefully at 93 on June 3, 2022 at Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City.
Pat was a “May Day” baby, born May 1, 1929 in Urbana, Illinois. She was the youngest of Edwin and Rose (Little) Pilchard’s five children.
Pat attended Urbana High, University of Illinois and received her Registered Nurse degree, specializing in emergency care, from Wesley Memorial School of nursing in Chicago. In Chicago she met her future husband, Philip K. Wiley. They were married in 1952.
Following Phil’s medical residency, they relocated to Traverse City where they raised a family of four boys on Seventh Street.
Pat chose a career of home making, friend making and volunteerism.
She loved decorating, entertaining, travel, crafts, Silver Lake, skiing and golf (Her line drive roller hole-in-one at TCG&CC was witnessed by three others).
Pat and Phil shared their hobbies, interests and boys with several long-time friends and their families. Phil left us on Jan. 31, 2001.
Pat was a life-long Methodist and actively attended Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City. She served on several church boards and was active in community meals program, prayer chain and pastor parish committee.
She supported any benefit for a good cause and cherished her decades long service in the PEO sisterhood. Pat helped organize Traverse City’s First Symphony Home tour fundraiser and opened her Seventh Street home to the community. She was on the board of the Silver Lake Association, a past president of the Munson Medical Auxiliary and held state level Medical Auxiliary positions. She was a volunteer RN for American Cancer Society, Tri-County Health Department and Red Cross Blood Mobile. She also served in Hospice and Bereavement. Pat also rallied for the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, aided at the first Vasa races and volunteered her boys to help clean up the Boardman River bottom lands beneath the Union Street bridge.
Pat was appropriately re-named by her two-year old first granddaughter in 1989, to be known since as ‘Bama’.
Bama is survived by her four sons; seven grand; and five great-grandchildren; son, Thomas, of Missouri; son, Timothy (Kathie), of Traverse City; son, Paul (Lisa), of Traverse City with their daughters and families, Lydia (Eamon) and boys, Winston and Archie Smith, of Traverse City; Laura (Wilson) and daughter, Wiley Hart Duty, of Tacoma, Washington; Lillian (Ben) and boys, Warren and Leo Swan, of Traverse City; and Claire Wiley (Ryan Hughes), of Ann Arbor; and son, Philip (Michelle), children, Philip, Nicole and Anna, all of Durango, Colorado.
