A California man was sentenced today to five years of prison for cyberstalking a number of young girls in California in an “sextortion” campaign he waged while he was an active-duty participant in the U.S. Marine Corps.

According to court documents, from May 2019 to February 2021, Johao Miguel Chavarri also known as Michael Frito, 26, of Torrance, stalked and made anonymous threats to numerous victims.

Chavarri, often using the name “Frito,” contacted victims on social media platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter and complimented their appearance and/or publically posted photos, and suggested a relationship in which he would be paid by the victim for sending him photos or videos. The victims at first accepted Chavarri’s requests and sent him nude sexually explicit or sexually explicit photos. When the victims refused Chavarri’s initial request for photos or videos, refusing to send him more images or videos, or otherwise refused to continue to communicate with him on the internet, Chavarri began to harass and threaten the victims using numerous online accounts. In most instances Chavarri threatened to publish sexual photos and videos of the victims online or on well-known pornographic websites and/or to share the photos or videos to the victims’ boyfriends, friends, families, or employers whom he would typically specifically identify using the names of.

Chavarri was sentenced to pay a $15,000 fine and served three years of supervised release.

Republicans tend to portray Democrats as soft on crime, but the FBI posted record numbers of arrests this summer. As the GOP is struggling with weak candidates and gas prices are going down, the crime narrative will have an easy retort.

FBI Director Christopher Wray announced today in a video message the results of joint criminal justice enforcement initiatives throughout summer, acknowledging the importance of cooperation between the state and local law enforcement agencies across the nation. read: Democrats tougher on crime

Between May 1 until September. 2 2022 between May 1 and Sept. 2, 2022, the FBI and local and state law enforcement agencies arrested nearly 6,000 alleged violent criminals and Gang members and seized more than 2,700 firearms connected to criminal conduct. Throughout the summer the FBI together with its partners stopped nearly 845 and destroyed the 105 violent gangs and criminal enterprises , and seized huge quantities of fentanyl as well as other deadly drug substances.

“Keeping our communities as well as our country safe is the Justice Department’s priority every day. Since the beginning of the year, we stepped up our efforts across the department to fight violent crime, including by directing each of the 94 U.S. Attorneys’ offices to develop and implement district-specific violence reduction strategies,” the Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. “Together with our law enforcement partners across the country, we will continue to do everything we can to protect our communities from violent crime.”

“I believe the FBI’s most sacred duty is to ensure people can live free from fear in their own homes and neighborhoods,” said Director Wray. “To that end, we dedicate agents, analysts, and technical resources across the country to work with state and local law enforcement on these operations.”

These joint violent crime enforcement efforts led to FBI operations taking place in a variety of communities across the nation including New Mexico, California, Texas, Illinois, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Pennsylvania as well as Washington, D.C., as summarized below:

The FBI Albuquerque Violent Gang Task Force executed 16 federal search warrants targeting violent street and prison gangs. More than a dozen federal, state, and local SWAT and law enforcement agencies teams seized over one million Fentanyl pills, 142 lbs of methamphetamine and 37 firearms nine ballistic vests two hand grenades, as well as $1.8 million cash.

The Los Angeles Metropolitan Task Force on Violent Gangs arrested 28 members and associates of the South Los Angeles-based Eastside Playboys street gang for alleged federal racketeering, firearms, and narcotics charges. The task force seized around 47 firearms, more than 200 kilograms of methamphetamine, 27 kilograms of cocaine plus over 13 kilograms of fentanyl as well as more than 7 kilograms of heroin.

In Houston, 10 MS-13 gang members were federally indictedfor racketeering conspiracy murder, attempted murder and conspiracy to murder for racketeering, related firearms-related charges, and obstruction of justice. The seven murders mentioned in the indictment were particularly brutal, involving machetes to cut and mutilate victims and also included the murder of a young female and an officer informant.

As part of the FBI’s efforts in a multi-agency coordinated operation focused on the South Lake Tahoe area, seven defendants were charged with conspiring to distribute and distribute heroin and methamphetamine. In addition, four subjects were indicted for trafficking methamphetamine, as well as firearms, which included an AR-15-style rifle, a shotgun, and a variety of handguns, some of which were “ghost” guns, lacking serial numbers.

In Chicago, three individuals were charged for two separate violent carjackings. In both cases the defendants were allegedly seen with firearms that were semiautomatic, and in one the case, they also used a semiautomatic rifle. A third defendant was charged in an additional carjacking in downtown Chicago and also the use of an firearm.

From the FBI San Antonio’s Waco Resident Agency, a federal grand jury has indicted 27 defendants for their involvement in a Texas-based drug trafficking organization operating a methamphetamine distribution ring, leading to numerous arrests.

An investigation by the federal government into an Hawaiian criminal enterprise resulted in three subjects being arrested for their alleged participation in the drug trafficking business of cocaine and methamphetamine operating a gambling business that was illegal and firearms possession. The criminal enterprise operated throughout the Hawaiian Islands.

41 violent gang members of Puerto Rico were arrested on firearms and drug trafficking charges. The criminal organization is believed to have distributed heroin cocaine, marijuana, Oxycodone, Xanax, and other drugs across Puerto Rico.

The FBI’s Washington Field Office’s Cross Border Safe Streets Task Force found eight firearms as well as significant quantities of Fentanyl and crack cocaine stemming from searches related to their investigation. Ten suspects were detained for allegedly conspiring to distribute cocaine and Fentanyl all over the D.C. area.

Twenty-five people were detained in Pennsylvania for allegedly running a drug trafficking ring. The suspects were accused of being part of a massive drug distribution conspiracy which went beyond state borders to Florida, Puerto Rico, and Arizona.

Similar to the operations mentioned here, the FBI along with our law enforcement partners carried out numerous operations in a variety of cities across the nation, including Cleveland, Buffalo, New Haven, Charlotte, Springfield, and more and will continue these efforts to stop violent crime and ensure that our communities are secure for all.

On Tuesday August 2, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Agriculture Specialists at the Louis Armstrong International Airport discovered an umbilical cord of a human in the baggage of a passenger.

The passenger landed on Spirit flight 1439 in Honduras and was referred for another inspection. CBP Agriculture Specialists found a human umbilical cord when they inspected the luggage. CBP Agriculture Specialists in Houston called the Center for Disease Control (CDC). They stated that the umbilical cord and medical wristband with them could be either abandoned or detained. It was stated that the item was owned by someone close to them. The objects were then thrown out and incinerated.

This is not the first time this kind of unusual object being found. On June 28, a person on the same recurring flight to Honduras was referred to secondary examination. X-rays revealed an item packed in the middle of t-shirts sealed in cellophane. Examining the t-shirts further revealed a small bag containing clothing, documents and a pregnancy test that was positive, and an unknown tissue sample. The man was quizzed about the items and initially was not sure what they were before ultimately declaring them as a human umbilical cord and positive pregnancy test taken by the family member.

“With so many daily travelers our staff will run into several unique things,” stated Mark Choina (Acting Area Port Director for New Orleans). It’s interesting that two umbilical cords from the same country were discovered, only a month apart. This incident emphasizes the importance of knowing what is in your bag, and whether you are able to legally import it, especially in the case of shipping it to another person.”

Certain biological substances that are to be brought into the U.S. require certification or issued a permit by the CDC. Find out whether you need an import license.

On a Typical Day in the fiscal year 2021, CBP discovered 264 pests at U.S. ports of entry. They also found 2,548 substances to be quarantined, including plant meat, animal byproducts and soil.

A motor home slammed into the side of Winchell’s Donut House in Lakewood Monday morning.

The crash occurred at Winchell’s, 6801 W Colfax Ave., Lakewood, just before 7 a.m. Video footage from AirTracker7 shows the motor home crashed into the side of the donut shop.

Although West Metro Fire Rescue initially declared that there was no injury in the donut shop Ty Countryman, the Lakewood Police Department public information officer confirmed that several victims were injured inside the Winchell’s. The most notable was a man who was seated at a table that was directly hit by the vehicle and then was thrown across the space. WMFR stated that the injuries he sustained do not appear to be life-threatening. Winchell’s owners confirmed that one of their employees was taken to the hospital. It’s not clear how many patrons were hurt.

WMFR confirmed that two of four people inside the motor home were injured and transported to the hospital. The driver’s injuries are considered serious. Firefighters also rescued dogs from the motorhome, but it was not hurt.

The reason for the accident was not known at the time of the crash. Countryman stated that the motor home was travelling northbound on Pierce Street when it attempted to turn left onto westbound Colfax Avenue. Countryman explained that the left turn didn’t go through because it was not completed somewhere in the process. Countryman said that surveillance footage does not show reckless driving.

The technical rescue team from WMFR is on the scene to repair structural damage to the building. Crews are working on repairing the damaged area in order to ensure that it is safe to remove the motorhome.
