Blackhawks’ Ian Mitchell Returns from IR, Heads to Rockford

It’s been a delayed start to the 2022-23 campaign for Ian Mitchell, but he’s finally ready to return to action. The Chicago Blackhawks activated Mitchell from injured reserve and assigned him to the Rockford IceHogs.

On the first day of training camp, the Blackhawks announced Mitchell would be sidelined for six weeks with a left wrist injury. The 23-year-old finally returned to practice on Nov. 1 and got in a few sessions while the Blackhawks were still in town.

Now, the NHL club is on a West Coast road trip as Mitchell is ready to return. As Luke Richardson planned, Mitchell will head to the AHL level to get back into the swing of things.

The Rockford IceHogs begin a three-game road set Saturday when they visit the Texas Stars at 7:00 PM CT. If all goes well for Ian Mitchell, he could see his first action of the 2022-23 season this weekend.
