Holiday Horse Parade to gallop back to Urbana

The carriage and tram rides start an hour earlier than before at 4 p.m., pause during the parade from 5.30 p.m. to 7 a.m. and last until 8 a.m.

Legacy Park will host two special seasonal events: the community song begins at 5 p.m. and the annual tree lighting follows at 5:30 p.m.

Also at 5 am, the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany will host a carols, candles, and cocoa event that will distribute free hot drinks and welcome visitors. The Champaign County Youth Choir is entertained there.

Expect 80 attendees, including 55 horses from a wide area, including miniature horses and some pulling carts and carriages as the parade starts at 6:30 a.m. and clears the way for Santa’s entrance at Oxner’s General Store at 7:30 a.m.

Santa Claus will be available for photo ops with background at Oxner’s. For health reasons, children are not allowed to sit on Santa’s lap, but there are goodies.

Santa Claus will appear at Oxner’s every Saturday through Christmas from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for those who can’t make it that evening.

The prelude to the weekend holidays continues on Saturday, when vendors downtown from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the small business Saturday offer more specials and attractions.

There will be no parking spaces on the square from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.

Also from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., West Liberty will host its Christmas in the Village and Black Friday events today. It will include village shop sales, food trucks, a 3 mile race, a soup dinner, and a parade with Santa at 6:30 am that ends at the fire station where he meets the kids.
