They were able to pick up a win in their last game against Bethune-Cookman, but they have lost their last two conference games against Penn State at home and Missouri on the road. In the win against Bethune-Cookman, Dain Dainja led the way for Illinois with 22 points and six rebounds with four steals and four blocks. Four other players were in double figures for Illinois.

The Wildcats are 10-3 on the season and 1-1 against Big Ten opponents. Their only non-conference losses came against No. 22 Auburn 43-42 and Pittsburgh 87-58. Their Big Ten loss was against No. 24 Ohio State in their last game 73-57.
