Men’s track and field team finish meets in Indiana and Illinois

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men’s track and field team wrapped up its weekend of competition with the heptathletes and jumpers competing at the Illini Challenge in Champaign, Illinois, while the rest of the team wrapped up competition at the IU Relays in Bloomington, Indiana.

Indiana Relays

Freshman Giovanni Wearing won the men’s 60-meter hurdles at 8.11 seconds.

Junior Andrew Stone finished second in the shot put with a toss of 60 feet, 3 ¼ inches while redshirt sophomore Jason Swarens placed fourth with a toss of 58-5 ¾.

In the men’s 3000 meters, the Badgers had three top-six finishes. Junior Rowen Ellenberg finished third in 7:59.70, Evan Bishop was fourth at 8:00.29, and Jack Meijer came in sixth in 8:03.49.

Sophomore Adam Spencer ran a personal best of 1:49.98 in the 800 meters to place third, ranking him fifth in the Big Ten this season. Junior Abdullahi Hassan finished fifth in 1:50.94, which ranks seventh in the Big Ten.

In the 4×400 relay, the team of Jalen Williams, Liam Belson, Hassan, and Spencer finished fourth in 3:18.26.

Sophomore Elliott Harris placed ninth in the men’s 400 meters, running a time of 50.29.

Two UW athletes ran personal bests in the mile. Freshman Pierce Seigne ran a personal best of 4:10.17 to finished 13th while freshman Logan Measner also ran a personal best of 4:12.47 to cross in 18th.

Ilini Challenge

Redshirt senior Cade Amborn placed second in the heptathlon with a personal best score of 5,478 points, which leads the Big Ten this season.

Amborn finished second in the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles in 8.13, second in the heptathlon pole vault at 15-0 and seventh in the heptathlon 10000 meters in 3:00.77.

Redshirt junior Quinn Lansill finished 10th in the heptathlon with 3,983 after being disqualified in the hurdles. Lansill cleared 12-4 ½ in the heptathlon pole vault to place sixth and also took sixth in the heptathlon 1000 meters in 3:00.65.

Transfer Justin Kiefel finished third in the triple jump with hop, skip and jump of 48-4 ¾ .

Select sprinters travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Feb. 3-4. The Badger throwers travel north to Ripon, Wisconsin, for the Red Hawk Invitational on Feb. 4.
