Volleyball Starts The Season With Two Wins At Rockford

The Wabash volleyball team opened its third varsity season with a pair of road victories Saturday afternoon. The Little Giants defeated Maranatha Baptist University 3-0 in the opening match before scoring a 3-0 win against Rockford University on that team’s home court.

The Little Giants dominated the opening match against Maranatha Baptist, earning a 25-14 win in the opening set without ever giving up the lead. Wabash won the second set 25-9 before leading the entire third set to claim a 25-9 victory.

Jackson Leeper led Wabash with nine kills in the opening match and an attack percentage of .667 in 12 total attempts to go with a team-high five service aces. Will Beikes handed out 22 assists with only one error. Luis Rivera led the squad with four digs in the opening victory of the season.

The Little Giants won the day’s second match by scores of 25-16, 25-14, 25-22. Wabash held off a late Rockford rally after taking a 24-20 lead in the final set. Luke Davis and Patrick Volk each earned nine kills to pace the Little Giants’ offensive attack. Ricky Session scored eight kills in the win. Beikes earned 29 assists. Rivera finished with eight digs along with six from Zachary Small.
