Local business owners provided innovative ideas from guest speakers
ROCKFORD (WREX) – Small businesses are the heart of a community and nonprofit Winnebago Buy Local understands their importance.
That is why it has helped local entrepreneurs with innovative ideas so that they can be successful for years.
“So we brought together experts from across the country to speak to our local businesses here today so they can grow and innovate,” said Lauren V. Davis, president of Winnebago Buy Local.
A guest speaker at the first annual Grow event came from Boulder, Colorado to emphasize the importance of the adjustment these business owners need to make, especially as the pandemic has changed everything.
“Without any river pipeline, we need to change the way we do business,” said Katrina Kibben, chief executive officer and founder of Three Ears Media. “This is an incredible opportunity to actually have the people you need to run your business.”
Local businesses like Alpine Body Shop have been forced to make changes related to the pandemic. Alpine Body Shop President Tina Johnson says security measures have affected their day-to-day operations.
“Gloves, masks, glasses … just trying to find the right cleaning products to take care of the virus,” Johnson said.
In addition, the government order to stay home meant people were not on the streets.
“Everything stopped,” said Johnson. “Nobody drove, so obviously there were no accidents.”
Staying inspired is often the key to success, which is why Johnson chose to participate.
“Seeing what other companies are doing to stay healthy and safe,” said Johnson. “To learn how people communicate with others.”
When local business owners come together it can make a difference in the community by keeping them strong.
