Redbirds set to compete at PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational

NORMAL, illustrated – The Illinois State track and field program travels to Louisville, Kentucky this weekend to compete in the two-day PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational. Events will get underway at 11 am on Friday with the heptathlon and women’s weight throw, with other field events to follow. Track events will begin at 4:20 pm, starting with women’s 5,000-meter run.

LAST TIME OUT:

Last weekend, the Redbirds competed in the University of Iowa’s, Larry Wieczorek Invite in Iowa City where the men’s squad came home with a team win.

Multiple student-athletes contributed to this men’s win. In men’s weight throw, Amiri Buchanan placed first and right behind him was Joe Boyer, with a second-place finish.

Sophomore sprinter, Sean Hopkins, placed second in the 60-meter in his debut race as a Redbird.

Senior hurdler, Brandon Ratliff, finished second in the 60-meter hurdles, where he ran a personal best of 7.85 seconds.

Five student athletes managed to score personal best times/marks overall adding them or improving their times/marks on the ISU all-time top-10 lists.

These student athletes are:

  • Joe Boyer, men’s weight throw, mark: 17.75m
  • Enyinnaya Nwagwu, men’s 200m, time: 21.84 sec
  • Jaylin Holmes, men’s 200m, time: 21.87 sec
  • Sean Hopkins, men’s 60m, time: 6.78 sec
  • Brandon Ratliff, men’s 60mH, time: 7.85 sec

UP NEXT

Following the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, the Redbirds will compete on February 3-4 at the Meyo Invitational at Norte Dame in South Bend, Indiana. The Redbirds will also be at the Keck Select Invite at Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, Illinois.
