UPDATE (8:45 pm) – The Peoria County Coroner is issuing an update on the identity of the victim killed in the crash.
According to a release on Facebook, a 43-year-old woman from Edwards, Illinois was killed in the incident. Her autopsy is scheduled for Monday, after which her identity will be released to allow time to notify family members.
UPDATE (5:49 pm): In a statement, the Peoria County Sheriff says they responded to the Kickapoo Shell Gas Station on North Kickapoo Edwards Road just after 10 am Sunday on two people unresponsive in their vehicle at the gas pumps that possibly had overdosed .
When deputies arrived, a woman was already being attended to by fire department personnel, and the man fled in the suspects vehicle and according to the Sheriff’s Office, almost hit three fire department personnel. That is when the suspect, according to the Sheriff’s Office, hit a Sheriff’s squad car while trying to flee the gas station parking lot,. That suspect also allegedly drove towards a deputy that was out of their squad car, causing the deputy to jump out of the way.
The Sheriff’s Office adds the suspect later drove eastbound on Route 150, and crashed into two vehicles at the intersection of Route 150 and Trigger Road, resulting in a fatality.
The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office says the Illinois State Police is leading the investigation, with more information, including the suspect’s name being released by them.
The person who died in the crash has not yet been identified. That information will be released by the Peoria County Coroner pending notifications.
UPDATE (4:53 pm) – Route 150 has been reopened in both directions to normal traffic, according to Peoria County Emergency Communications.
UPDATE (2:38 pm) – New details are emerging about the victims involved in a deadly crash Sunday morning in Peoria County.
According to a release from the Peoria Fire Department, first responders found three vehicles when they arrived at the scene. The first vehicle (a small sedan) had one adult and one child inside, both unresponsive. The adult was pronounced dead. Brimfield firefighters used the “Jaws of Life” to remove the child from inside the car, while Peoria Fire paramedics aided in the ambulance on the way to the hospital with the child.
The second vehicle (a large sedan) had one adult patient treated by Peoria Fire paramedics on scene and in ambulance on the way to hospital. This vehicle caught fire and was extinguished by Peoria firefighters.
The third vehicle (a pickup truck) had one occupant taken to a local hospital for an evaluation.
According to the release, the Peoria Fire Department, Brimfield Fire Department, Advanced Medical Transport, Peoria Police Department, Peoria County Sherriff’s Department, and Illinois State Police all aided in the response.
PEORIA COUNTY (25 News Now) – One person is dead and another two hospitalized after a crash late Sunday morning, involving three separate vehicles.
According to a release from Illinois State Police, troopers responded around 10:30 am to War Memorial Drive near Koerner Road in Peoria County for a three vehicle crash. One person was pronounced dead, with two people taken to an area hospital with injuries. The extent of their injuries are unknown at this time.
The intersection of War Memorial and Koerner is partially closed. All traffic is being routed from westbound Rt 150 onto Southbound Koerner. Northbound Koerner is able to travel westbound Rt 150. No traffic is passing eastbound from the intersection. War Memorial drive is closed at Orange Prairie for westbound traffic.
Illinois State Police are currently handling the incident. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says a statement from his office will be released soon.
