Today is Friday, October 8th, 2021. Here is the local news 100, 50 and 15 years ago:

In 1921, the 35th annual reunion of the 76th Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry, was due to meet in Kankakee the next week. Only seven infantry soldiers who fought in the Civil War remained in Champaign County.

In 1971, Champaign County clerk Dennis Bing admitted to a group of 40 UI students that he “disapproved of the laxity of the description of residence” when determining whether a college student was in his college -City to choose. “The fact that a student has lived in a university town for the required time does not entitle him to vote there. Permanent residence is necessary to establish residence, ”said Bing. He said a student cannot have two apartments in two locations at the same time.

In 2006, Champaign school officials heard from a developer about a possible new website to be donated to a school in Savoy. Steve Meid of Signature Homes was scheduled to give a presentation to the school board on 15 acre property along First Street south of Church Street.
