Illinois State wraps up PNC Lenny Lyle’s Invitational

LOUISVILLE, KY. – Illinois State Track and Field wrapped up competition at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational on Saturday, as two Redbirds and three relay squads etched their way into program history.

“Very pleased with the progress we made in all three relays this weekend, with all of them running top 10 all time marks,” said Director of Track and Field/Cross Country, Jeff Bovee.

On Friday, the women’s distance medley, with runners Rachel Hickey, San’Toria Harris, Mattison Plummer and Caroline Meyers became sixth in program history after running a 11:43.64.

To finish up the meet, the Redbirds ended strong as both men’s and women’s 4×400 squads stamped themselves on the top-10 list as well.

Raydoffa Braziel, Enyinnaya Nwagwu, Jaylin Holmes and Junias Holmes ran a 3:14.07 in the 4×400 putting themselves sixth in program history.

The women’s 4×400 ran by Hassy Fashina – Bombata, Destiny White, Nnenna Okpara and San’Toria Harris, stamped them eighth in program history with a time of 3:44.13.

“Brazil looked fantastic in the 400m,” said Bovee. Braziel ran a 47.65, making him seventh in program history.

Ariel Atias placed fifth in the heptathlon, “Atias had a strong performance in his first multi of the season”, mentioned Bovee. Atias finished with a score of 5,174.

The Redbirds had multiple strong performances this weekend. Andrew Englert in the men’s mile improved his personal best by six seconds, now with a time of 4:11.54.

Caroline Meyers ran personal-best on both days in the 3000m and distance medley. Meyers ran a 9:42.12 in the 3000m placing her tenth in program history.

Mye’Joi Williams broke the facility record in shot put with a throw of 16.10m.


The Redbirds will compete on February 3-4 at the Meyo Invitational at Norte Dame in South Bend, Indiana. The Redbirds will also be at the Keck Select Invite at Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, Illinois.
