CHAMPAIGN, Ill.— The men’s and women’s track and field teams completed day one of the Illini Challenge on Friday, Jan. 27. Two new top-10 program mark was set and nine additional personal-best field marks were registered today.
Sophomore Tacoria Humphrey won the long jump and she tied the eighth best program mark of 6.04m (19-9 3/4).
Sophomore Carolina Hintz threw the Illinois eighth best weight throw with a 15.85m (52) toss, she placed fourth. Freshman Olivia Campbell placed second in the same event with an 18.25m (59-10 1/2).
Senior Tyler Sudduth won the weight throw with a 21.11m (69-3 1/4) launch. Junior Hunter Hendershot threw a new personal best in the same event, 16.48m (54-1).
Senior’s Jason Thormo and Jessica McDowell both won the 200m dash. A pair of freshmen Azariyah Bryant (second) and Madison Hardamon (third) helped the Illini sweep the podium in the women’s 200m.
Sophomore Abby Lynch won the 800m followed by redshirt senior Madison Marasco. Senior Will O’Brien placed second in the 800m.
Sophomore CJ Shoaf won the high jump with a 2.05m (6-8 3/4) spring. Graduate student Bret Dannis claimed gold in the long jump on a new personal-best leap, 7.29m (23-11). Sophomore Daniel Mboyo finished directly behind Dannis, 7.24m (23-9).
MULTI EVENTS
The day started with the women’s pentathlon and men’s heptathlon. Junior Kenli Nettles and senior Danni Stoughton competed in the pentathlon while senior Aiden Ouimet was in the heptathlon.
Nettles won the high jump and tied her personal-best with a 1.71m (5-7 1/4) bounce. She also set a new personal-best in the shot put, 11.53m (37-10), and placed fourth. She placed fifth in the 60m hurdles and sixth in the long jump, 5.31m (17-5 1/4). Nettles did not finish the pentathlon.
Stoughton finished sixth with 3,579 points. She placed second in both the long jump, 5.45m (17-10 3/4), a new personal-best and the 800m. She placed tenth in the high jump, 1.53m (5-0 1/4) and ninth in the high jump, 10.31m (33-10). She placed seventh in the 60m hurdles.
Ouimet currently sits in fourth place with 3,055 points with three events remaining. He scored a new personal best in the high jump, 1.96m (6-5) and placed second. He crossed fourth in the 60m dash. He placed fourth in the shot put, 13.62m (44-8 1/4) and fifth in the long jump, 6.74m (22-1 1/2).
UP NEXT
The Illini track teams are back in action tomorrow Jan. 28 for day two of the Illini Challenge. The heptathlon continues at 10:15 am and the running/field events begin at noon CT.
