Leona Fry Obituary – Rockford Register Star

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Leona Ruth (Bohn) Fry passed away on August 16, 2022, at the age of 96, with her husband Lloyd by her side.

Leona was born September 11, 1925, in Hancock, WI, the daughter of Wilhelm F. and Martha W. (Meyer) Bohn, the sixth of six children. She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Deerfield Fellowship, Hancock, WI. Leona graduated from Hartford Grade School in 1938 and earned a GED diploma in Rockford, IL in May, 1978. She was very proud of her accomplishments. She worked at Mechanics Universal Joint Company for 10 years and at Barber Coleman Company for 28½ years.

Leona married Lloyd E. Fry, Jr. on August 27, 1949, and they were just short of celebrating their 73rd wedding anniversary. Together they raised four children, Steven Arthur (Debra), Myron Allen (Linda), and Kevin Charles (Nancy); 8 grandchildren, Lindsey Marie Fry, Rebecca Michelle Fry Crawford (Tim), Daniel Lloyd Fry (Amanda), Whitney Rose Fry (Dan Delaney), Carson Lloyd Fry (Natalia Antas), Madysen Leigh Fry, Jacob Fry, and Collin Eggen. Nine great-grandchildren round out the family, along with many loved nieces and nephews

Predeceased by her parents; brothers, Herbert (Lydia), William Jr. (Milda), Arthur; sisters, Frieda (Bob) Bargren, Anna (Joe) Hackler; daughter, Marnell Rebecca and granddaughter, Amy Rose.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran and then Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rockford, IL since 1942. She sang in the choir for many years and was part of several organizations. Leona was in Bible Study Fellowship and Good Time Singers for several years, both being an important part of a great journey in her faith in God!

While the family is grieving the loss of a wonderful woman in all of our lives, we rejoice that she is now with her Lord and Savior and she is smiling on all of us and all those who knew her. Her faith, grace, poise, and capacity to love and forgive will continue to inspire many people.

A Celebration of Life will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 827 16th St., Rockford, IL 61104. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Goldie B. Floberg Center, 58 W. Rockton Rd., Rockton, IL 61072.
