BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – SIUE men’s and women’s indoor track and field competed at the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana this weekend. The Cougars set several personal bests over Friday and Saturday.
Women’s Results:
Sophomore Stephanie Montenegro set a PR in the weight throw with a 15.18m (49’9.75″) toss for a sixth-place finish. Allison Sanders followed Montenegro with a seventh-place, 15.09m (49’6.25″) throw.
Kailah Carter represented SIUE in the 400m with a second-place finish and 57.76 time. Her time set a new indoor PR for the sophomore. Carter also finished second in the 200m event with a 25.93 time, good for a new career best. Hanna Anderson followed Carter with a third-place finish and 26.01 time, also good for a PR.
Maryiah Menicucci also set a PR in the shot put with a 12.35m (41’1.5″) throw. She placed sixth in the event.
“We continue to improve in each event group,” Head Coach Marcus Evans said. “Our small group came ready for high level competition and we had another week where multiple personal bests were achieved.”
Men’s Results:
Sophomore Jackson Edwards ran a career-best 8:59.51 time in the 3000m event while placing third.
Konrad Sacha finished third in the 400m with a 51.06 time while Cole Knapp placed seventh with a 8.92 finish in the 60m hurdles.
Joel DeGracia (15.09m, 49’6.75″) and Luke Hatten (14.69m, 48’2.5″) represented the Cougars in the weight throw with sixth and seventh-place finishes. Hatten’s toss marked a new PR.
“I really like the momentum we are carrying from week to week,” added Evans. “As we hone in on conference, our team will continue to build confidence.”
Up Next: SIUE will travel to Urbana-Champaign, Illinois for the Illini Challenge.
