Donald E Trejo of Morris 1946 – 2022 | obituaries

Donald “Don” E. Trejo age 76 of Morris, Illinois, formerly of Channahon, Illinois, and Davenport and Clinton, Iowa, died Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois.

Born April 20, 1946 in Davenport, Donald Edward was the son of Donacino and Drusilla Bossen-Grove. He was raised and educated in Davenport, graduated from Davenport West High School, and completed an Associates Degree at Muscatine Jr. College. Don enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam where he earned a Bronze Star with Valor and the Purple Heart.

Donald worked as a chemical operator at Northern Petro, Equistar, and LyondellBassell for thirty-one years until he retired in 2002. He was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Morris and volunteered his time at Morris Hospital and with Habitat for Humanity. Don was an avid bicyclist and enjoyed biking with the Joliet Bicycle Club. He was a friend to all who met him and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Judy E. (Weppler) Trejo of Morris, whom he married August 2, 2002; two children: Thaddeus (Claudinette Swartz) Trejo of Chicago, Illinois and Doña Trejo of Naperville, Illinois; three step-children: Angela (Mark) Slagle of Knoxville, Tennessee, Wendy (Shawn) Hornsby of Morris, and Mark (Sara) Mitchell of Verona, Illinois; four grandchildren: Hayden & Jace Sudds-Trejo, Artie Trejo and Miles Trejo; five step-grandchildren: Zack, Seth and Will Hornsby, Deryk (Rebekah) Rankin and Kaila (Nathan) Waddell: four great grandchildren: Brock Mitchell, Moses & Adira Rankin & Levi Waddell; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: John Weppler of Clearwater, Florida, Mary Pierce of Willis, Texas, and Rebecca (Jerry) Haven of Peoria, Illinois; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, the mother of his children, Nancy Trejo of Bolingbrook, and his dear friend: Don Henderkot of Davenport.

Don was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, brother Jim Grove, Aunt Mary and Uncle Art Bossen and two sisters-in-law: Kathy Matteson and Nancy Higgins and two brothers-in-law: Dan Pierce and Don Matteson. Dear friends Richard Hawkins and Kurt Kelting.

The family will receive friends for a visitation at Peace Lutheran Church, 101 Candlelight Lane, in Morris on Thursday, July 14, 2022 from: 9:00 am until the time of funeral services at 12:00 pm Pastor Lu Cantrell will officiate and burial with military honors will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Morris.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Don’s memory to: Grundy Area Pads or Morris Hospital Transportation Services.
