International Women’s Baseball Center buys an acre of land in Beyer Park | news

ROCKFORD (WREX) – Great development opportunities on the way to Beyer Park.

The Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners approved the International baseball center for women (IWBC) to buy an acre of land in Beyer Park for $ 25,000.

The remaining three acres of parkland are leased where the Rockford Peaches once played and where baseball continues to be played.

“The IWBC’s plans will also increase tourism and demand for local businesses, provide more employment opportunities, and the campus will be a catalyst for economic development in south Rockford,” said Scott Olson, president of the Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners.

As part of the deal, IWBC must also work to have the ticket booth and steps in Beyer Park added to the National Registry of Historic Places. IWBC also has plans to honor and preserve the history of all the Rockford area sports and the Beyer Stadium athletes.
