Places to go sledding in the Rockford Illinois area

Schools are closed for winter break and snow is on the ground. Time to round up the kids, grab the sleds and head for the hills.

Here are some places in the Rockford area for you to go.

Rockford

Anna Page Park

Location: 2800 N. Springfield Ave.

The park has smaller, more gentle hills for younger children to enjoy. There’s plenty of parking at the park, too.

Levings Lake Park

Location: 1420 S. Pierpont Ave.

The park was recommended within the past few years for people to go sledding. The park features multiple large hills for children to sled. There are also two playgrounds nearby for kids to play on as well.

Twin Sisters Hills Park

Location: 3001 Harney Court

Probably Rockford’s most popular and crowded sledding hills. Sled hills at Twin Sisters are open daily for public use from dawn to dusk.

Sinnissippi Park

Location: 1401 N. Second St.

There’s plenty of parking throughout the park. In addition to sledding, visitors can also check out the Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition, which begins Jan. 18 through Jan. 21.

Freeport

The slope is located next to the Koenig Amphitheater in Krape Park.

Beloit, Wisconsin

Hospital Hill

Location: 623 Olympian Blvd.

The hospital is long gone, but a great hill for sledding still remains and is an annual winter destination in southern Wisconsin.

Janesville, Wisconsin

Look for the “Little Free Sled Sheds” at four of Janesville’s public sledding hills: Ardon Park, Riverside Park and Golf Course, Lustig Park, and Sheiffer Park. The sled sheds house sleds you may use free of charge during your time at the hill and return for others to use when you are done.
