DUAL MEET INFORMATION
Purdue at Illinois
Saturday, Jan. 7 at Noon ET
ARC Pool / Champaign, IL
WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. – Purdue women’s swimming & diving resumes its dual meet schedule with the first of two trips to the Land of Lincoln this month, visiting Illinois’ ARC Pool for the first time since the early 90s for Saturday’s Big Ten dual.
The 16-event dual meet is set for noon ET as part of the Illini’s Senior Day. The meet is scheduled to feature the default event lineup with the exception of the 200 freestyle relay replacing the 400 to close the dual.
Even with only 90 miles separating the two campuses, Purdue has not competed in Champaign since November 1991 – racing at a fall invitational that also featured Kansas, Notre Dame, Illinois State and Southern Illinois. The 31 years since is easily the longest the boilermakers have gone without a trip to any other Big Ten campus. Illinois discontinued the sponsorship of its men’s program at the end of the 1992-93 school year.
Purdue’s trips to Evanston and Ann Arbor later this season will also mark the first time any active swimmers have competed at those aquatic centers for an NCAA meet. The same could be said for the October road trips to Missouri and Rutgers last semester.

Junior Masy Folcik is expected to make her season debut Saturday, returning to action after hip surgery in August. She swept the breaststroke events vs. Illinois last season, joining Hannah Hill and Lindsay Turner as Boilermakers to win multiple individual events in the Senior Day dual. Folcik posted career-best times in the 100 (1:00.50, 4th) and 200 breast (2:13.45, 6th) last season, moving up Purdue’s all-time lists in both events. She also represented the program at USA Swimming’s Phillips 66 National Championships in July.
At this time last year, it was Claire Abbasse who returned from a fall-semester injury. She made her season debut the first weekend of January and went on to race with Purdue’s 200 and 400 free relay teams at the Big Ten Championships.
Selected members of the women’s team not traveling this weekend have the option of racing at the Purdue men’s suited and modified intrasquad meet Saturday from 9-10:15 am It’s open to the public at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.
The Illini are slated to compete at home for the first time since Oct. 14. The boilermakers have not competed in a dual meet since Oct. 28-29 at Rutgers.
