Caterina Scuderi Obituary (1943 – 2022) – Rockford, IL

Caterina Scuderi, 78, of Rockford, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022 at Swedish American Hospital. She was born on September 16, 1943, in Camporeale – Palermo, Sicily, the youngest daughter of Angleo and Vincenza (Cicirello) Eterno. She married Alberto Scuderi on July 22, 1961, in Italy. She worked as a cook for Wesley Willows, Highlander in the bakery, and for Nelson Knitting, where she made sock monkeys. Caterina and Alberto came to the states 50 years ago from Italy.
She loved to garden, where she cherished her roses, vegetables, fig tree and peach tree. She had a passion for cooking and was well known for her famous lasagna and Italian fig cookies. She enjoyed watching Food Network where she explored with new recipes and enjoyed writing them down in Italian. She loved hosting during the holiday times, always making sure everyone was fed and enjoyed spending time with her family. Caterina cherished her time with her children and grandchildren. She was a caregiver, thoughtful, loving and hardworking, and constantly was putting others before herself.
She is survived by her children, Maria Murphy, Virginia (Jon) Suyko, and Gioacchino “Jack” (Connie) Scuderi; grandchildren, Angelo and Jacob Scuderi, Nikolas and Samuel Suyko, and Briana Murphy; furry friend, Daisy; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents; husband, Alberto; son, Angelo, infant twin sons, numerous brothers and sisters, including Bernadro “Angelo” Eterno and Giuseppa “Pina” Montalto.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am, Friday, July 8, 2022, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson Street, Rockford, Illinois 61102. A visitation take place the day prior on Thursday, July 7, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, with a rosary at 6:45 pm, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61108.
