MADISON, WI (University of Wisconsin-WSAU) Sarah Franklin from the third-ranked Wisconsin volleyball team has been named the Big Ten Conference Co-Player of the Week. She shares this week’s honor with Northwestern’s Temi Thomas-Ailara, earning her second career award and second of the season.

A 6-foot-4 outside hitter, Franklin led the Badgers over No. 1 Nebraska last Wednesday with a match-high 21 kills while hitting .381. She added six digs and one block vs the Huskers. The redshirt sophomore led all players with a match-high 18 kills against No. 9 Minnesota last Saturday, contributing eight digs and three blocks, including the set-two-winning block solo

On the weekend, Franklin averaged 5.57 kills per set while hitting .265. She added 2.00 digs per set and 0.57 blocks per set. The Lake Worth, Florida native also passed very well, being aced only once in 70 service receptions for .986 percent.

For the season, Franklin leads the Badgers and ranks fifth in the Big Ten with 3.73 kills per set. In Big Ten play, she has a team-best 4.00 kills per set, which ranks fifth in the conference. Franklin also adds 1.73 digs and 0.53 blocks per set on the year.

Third-ranked Wisconsin (17-3, 11-1 B1G) continues the second half of Big Ten play with a split week of play, traveling to Illinois (11-11, 6-6) before hosting Indiana (13-11, 6 -6). The Badgers travel to Champaign, Illinois, on Thursday to take on the Fighting Illini. First serve is at 7 p.m. from Huff Hall, live on the Big Ten Network. UW returns home to host the Hoosiers on Sunday at 1 pm in the UW Field House. That match streams live on B1G+.
