The Rockford Choral Union presents its 2022 performances of George Frideric Handel’s oratorio The Messiah with chorus, soloists and orchestra at 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 26, and Sunday, November 27, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Rockford, Illinois. The concerts are free, but a free will offering will be taken. The concert will also be streamed live.
Handel’s Messiah was composed over the course of a month in 1741, six months before its premiere in Dublin at a new concert hall where several of Handel’s operas were also performed. The premiere was a triumph; the Dublin Journal proclaimed, “The sublime, the grand, and the tender, adapted to the most elevated, majestic, and moving words, conspired to transport and charm the ravished heart and ear.”
The latest COVID variant is highly contagious. For your health and safety, following CDC guidelines,
we recommend that all persons attending our Messiah concerts wear masks inside the church building
(masks will be available at the door)
