Men’s Basketball Adds Transfer Caleb Donaldson

Eastern Illinois men’s basketball head coach Marty Simmons has announced the addition of transfer guard Caleb Donaldson. Donaldson is a transfer from St. Cloud State who will be making a return to his native state as he prepped at Bloomington HS and has two years of eligibility remaining.

Donaldson played the last three seasons at St. Cloud State where he earned second team All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference honors this past season. Donaldson averaged 17.6 points per game starting all 29 games. The guard (6’4″, 190) scored 20 or more points in 11 games last season including two 31 point efforts. He added 3.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game and was the lone St. Cloud State player to make more than 100 free throws for the season Donaldson shot 78 percent from the foul line while connecting on 57 percent from the floor and 38 percent from 3-point range.

“Caleb brings a great deal of experience and versatility to the Panther program. He has a reputation for playing hard at both ends, and with his size and athleticism he can defend multiple positions,” said Simmons. “He has shown tremendous work ethic since finishing his high school career at Bloomington High School, developing into a 1,000 point scorer at St. Cloud State and averaging nearly 18 points per game last season. We are excited to welcome Caleb to the Panther family. “

As a freshman at St. Cloud State, Donaldson played in all 29 games making 18 starts. He averaged 8.9 points per game with a season-high of 21 points. As a sophomore in 2020-21 he had a breakout season earning honorable mention All-NSIC honors. During the year he averaged 16.7 points per game with 2.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while scoring a career high 33 points. He ranked 10th in the NSIC in scoring and was fourth in field goal percentage connecting at a 57.9 percent. Donaldson scored 1,051 points in his St. Cloud State career.

Donaldson is from Bloomington, Illinois where he averaged 15.7 points, 3.1 assists and 1.7 rebounds per game as a senior at Bloomington HS. He was selected to play in the IBCA All-Star Game and earned honorable mention All-State honors. Donaldson was a first team All-Big Twelve Conference selection as a senior.

Donaldson is the latest player to join the Panthers roster for the upcoming season joining guards Kinyon Hodges, Cameron Haffner and Kyle Carlesimo in addition to post players Sincere Malone, Brandon (Nick) Ellington and Kyle Thomas.
