Byron Johnson Obituary (1931 – 2022) – Rockford, IL

J. Byron Johnson, 91, of Rockford IL, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022, in Swedish American Hospital. Born April 18, 1931, in Adams, MN, the son of Joel and Clara (Knutson) Johnson. Byron graduated from Adams High School. He married Audrey Fagerberg on March 10, 1951, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where they became lifelong members. Byron worked at Sundstrand in Production Control for most of his career. He loved to play golf and enjoyed watching tennis. Byron also enjoyed fishing and playing cards, and was an avid Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Vikings fan. Spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to him.
Survived by his wife, Audrey; children, Cindy Kepner of Plainfield IL, Jody Vaiarella of Rockford IL, and Joel Johnson of Dousman WI; grandchildren, Jennifer (Rick) White, Angela (Tim) Taviani, Erika (Tim) Waldeck, April Vairaella, and Anthony Vaiarella; great-grandchildren, Jake, Ben and Hailey White, Ava and Reese Taviani. Predeceased by his daughter in law, Heidi Johnson; sister, Mildred; brothers Carleton and Wilbur.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2821 N Bell School Road, Rockford IL, 61107 at 11:00 am Visitation will be held at 10:00 am prior to the service inside the church. Burial to follow at Arlington Memorial Park, 6202 Charles Street, Rockford IL, 61108. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 5501 N Cumberland Ave. #101, Chicago IL, 60656, or Westminster Presbyterian Church,.
