HAZLETON — Richard D. Ellis, 60, of Hazleton, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born Oct. 11, 1961 in Vincennes to Paul and Janet Ellis. He was employed by the Gibson County Highway Department. Richard was a member of the New Life Church of the Nazarene in Princeton and he had a strong Christian faith. He also served on the Hazleton Town Council. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was greatly loved by his family and friends, and was adored by his nieces and nephews. Richard enjoyed fishing, shooting, baseball, golf and being outdoors. He had played one year for the St. Louis Cardinals Rookie League in Johnson, Tennessee.

Richard is survived by his wife, Stacy (Benner) Ellis; three children, Emily Sisk (Daniel) of Owensville, Alina Martin (Greco-Coppi) of Darmstadt, Germany and David Ellis (Erica) of East Peoria, Illinois; three grandchildren, Everett and Easton Sisk and Eliazar Ellis; three brothers and one sister, Bill Ellis (Barbara), Bob Ellis (Lynn), Jim Ellis (Becky) and Nina Ellis; nieces and nephews, Tonja Huffman, Jill Deutsch, Mitch Ellis, Blake Ellis, Amy Fowler, Austin and Eric Russell.

Funeral service is at 4 pm Monday, July 18, at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, with Pastor Andrew Johnson officiating. Visitation is from 2 pm until the hour of service Monday at the funeral home. Interment follows at Hazleton Community Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Life Church of the Nazarene, 712 N. Embree St., Princeton, IN 47670. Envelopes will also be available at Colvin’s.
