Norma Ellen (Futerman) Polcek, 81, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, transitioned peacefully at 2:30am August 2, 2022 in her home, surrounded by the love of her family and significant other in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Norma danced through life with grace and dignity, and continued her strength through 7 months with pancreatic cancer.
Born March 1, 1941 in the Bronx, NY, the daughter of Sam and Jessie (Gold) Futerman. Norma moved to Rockford with her family in 1973 and created a beautiful home and a beautiful life for 44 years in the community. Norma can be described as a pioneer and a trailblazing entrepreneur. She started and ran two successful businesses in Rockford, Initially You and Samco. Norma also holds two US patents on comfortable high heel shoes, created from the idea that she loved high heel shoes and loved to dance. Norma also led and participated in many fundraising events throughout the years in the community and at Temple Beth El. She sat on the board for the Rockford Park District, Rockford Memorial Hospital Foundation, Rockford Area Arts Council, and served as President of the Temple Beth El sisterhood.
Norma is survived by her sister Gail (Futerman) Sack, daughters: Sharyn (Bob) Schneiderman of Boca Raton, FL, Alyssa (Barry) Peek of Sag Harbor, NY, and Heidi (David) Ruud of Ann Arbor, MI. Four grandchildren, Daniel Schneiderman of New York, NY, Marc Schneiderman of Boca Raton, FL, Sami Ruud of Ann Arbor, MI and Matt Ruud of Ann Arbor, MI. Norma was predeceased by her husband Bruce Polcek in 2010.
Norma was playing the piano, exercising, and dancing until the last precious days of her beautiful life.
