Teen arrested in murder investigation

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) – The Decatur Police Department announced Friday that a Decatur teenager had been arrested in connection with a Christmas Eve murder.

Officials said they responded to a fired call on South Church Avenue near West Spring Street just before 1:30 p.m. on December 24. The emergency services found 31-year-old Eferm O. Jones at the reported location with several gunshot wounds. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

After several days of investigation, the Decatur police received an arrest warrant against Jatrevius O. Jarrett, 18, for first degree murder on Thursday. Jarrett was found and arrested in Springfield just after noon on Friday.

Jarrett is being held in the Sangamon County Jail on a $ 1.5 million bond. He will be extradited to Macon County at a later date.
